U of I creating online fire protection certificate program

The University of Idaho got a $244,000 grant from the Idaho Department of Labor to start a new online fire protection certificate program.

University officials said the grant is going to be used to fund a great need that exists not only in this area, but all over.

“There’s a need in industry, especially at the INL, but other places for talent, for people that have specialized training in fire systems, fire protection,” Marc Skinner, executive officer for University of Idaho, Southeast Region, said. “This grant will help us build up courses and a certificate that can help train up the workforce.”

The new certificate program will have six courses that total 18 credit hours. Topics will include fire safety hazards analysis, fire suppression, community planning, and building designs for fire and life safety, to name a few.
