Students escape injury in Bingham County bus crash

Two people were hurt when a school bus crashed into a van at the intersection of West 600 South Rioad and State Highway 39 in Bingham County at 4:52 p.m. Monday. None of the six children on board were injured.

Idaho State Police said bus driver Larry Smith, 67, of Blackfoot was driving a District #52 school bus east on West 600 South Road and failed to yield at the stop sign. The bus collided with a 2015 Dodge Ram van driven by Braden Wanner, 22, of Rexburg.

Wanner was taken to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center in Idaho Falls, Smith was taken by private vehicle to a local clinic.

Six students riding on the bus were not hurt and were picked up by their parents at the scene.

The highway was blocked for approximately two hours while crew2s worked to clear the scene.

Investigation of the crash is continuing.
