Celebrating Endangered Species Day at Zoo Idaho

Friday marks Endangered Species Day at Zoo Idaho. The Bureau of Land Mangement (BLM), the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the Idaho Museum of Natural History came together to showcase the importance of protecting endangered species.

The three organizations hosted an event Friday to educate children and everyone about that importance. A portion of the festivities were dedicated to the Greater Sage Grouse birds, which are native to East Idaho. In 2010, the bird was designated as a candidate for endangered species listing. In 2015, they were removed from the candidate listing after “the largest landscape -scale conservation planning effort in U.S. history.

The event also brought activities and games to the zoo for everyone who attended, and was free to the public.
