Ft. Hall man sentenced on voluntary manslaughter charges
Joaquin Broncho, 19, of Fort Hall, was sentenced Wednesday to six and a half years in prison for voluntary manslaughter.
U.S. Attorney for Idaho Wendy J. Olson said Broncho entered a plea agreement on August 29, 2014. He pleaded guilty to the charges on February 9, 2016. Broncho was previously charged as a juvenile in the case, but it was later transferred to adult court.
In the agreement, Broncho said he and others were involved in a fight outside a residence on the Fort Hall Indian Reservation. Bronco went into the house, obtained a knife, and went back outside where he stabbed the victim, Joey Runninghorse. Runninghorse was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead as a result of the stabbing.
Chief U.S. District Judge B. Lynn Winmill also ordered Broncho to serve three years of supervised release.
The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Fort Hall Police Department.
