Pocatello holds annual 4th of July parade

The streets of Pocatello were jammed this morning with people trying to find a spot to watch the annual 4th of July parade. The parade is sponsored by the Idaho Central Credit Union and Portneuf Medical Center.

The parade began on 1st street, up to 15th street and ended at Holt Arena.

The parade included dozens of floats, each sporting the traditional red, white and blue colors for the holiday. Floats included businesses around Pocatello, local schools and local royalty floats.

There were also many patriotic floats that carried iconic symbols of the U.S. The Statue of Liberty, her torch, and men and women in uniform could all be seen in the parade. There was even a field of heroes tribute float. All were reminders of why July 4 is celebrated. They also seemed to be the crowd favorite, even with the kids.

“All the floats were super fun. Well, not all of them but I like the one that won the grand prize,” said Barbara Mondragon, eight years old. “It had the giant American flag and there was the guy stiff as cardboard doing the salute.”

“I think my favorite one was probably the one with a bunch of names for the people who’ve died for the country,” said Sandy Mondragon, ten years old.

During the parade, local law enforcement did crowd control to keep kids and bystanders out of the road.
