Pocatello flag committee starting education campaign

The movement to change Pocatello’s flag is starting to open its doors to the public. In a meeting Wednesday, the flag design ad-hoc committee finalized a presentation it would be giving to the community to start getting their ideas on paper.

“We are really looking to get every aspect of the community involved in this process. A flag is a unifier. It does so many different things for a community,” said Logan McDougall, the committee’s chair.

As part of its education campaign, the committee plans to share the presentation with different community organizations and groups. The aim is to tell people what makes a good flag and why one is important for a community.

Next week, it will first meet with Pocatello City Council during their study session Thursday. The meeting is open to the public and begins at 9 a.m.

After the presentation, the plan is to get people’s ideas on paper and tell them how to submit ideas.

The goal is to get every facet of the community involved.

“We’ve been given a golden opportunity here; how often are you named the complete worst at something? It sounds terrible, but we now have an opportunity to go from the worst to the best,” said McDougall.

If you’d like the committee to stop by a group meeting of yours, you can contact McDougall at 208-234-6281 or email him at lmcdougall@pocatello.us.

The committee is planning to launch a full-out campaign for the greater Pocatello community in the fall. This will include providing applications detailing the specifications people should consider.

All age groups and design skill levels will be able to contribute.
