Two men arrested after Idaho Falls foot chases

Bonneville County deputies used a taser and the help of a citizen to arrest two men after separate foot chases in Idaho Falls Wednesday.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, deputies saw Tanner J. Baker, who was wanted on active warrants, walking in the area of Northgate Mile and Boulevard in Idaho Falls. Two deputies detained Baker and another man. Baker dropped a backpack and fled on foot. A third deputy arrived and detained the second man while the first two chased Baker.

Baker ran south to North Yellowstone and then over the railroad tracks to North Water. Other deputies and officers ultimately located Baker in the backyard of a residence in the 600 block of North Water. A deputy tased the man, which allowed officers to take him into custody.

The second suspect, identified as Derick L. Perry, broke free from the third deputy and fled south through the E Street underpass and between the railroad tracks. Employees at Farr’s Candy Company reported Perry entered their business, asked to use the phone and then disappeared into the warehouse.

An assisting officer saw Perry run from the back of the candy company to the southeast. He was spotted running through back yards. A man in one of the homes tackled Perry and held him in his backyard. Deputies then took Perry into custody.

A search of the backpack Baker left behind contained a .40 caliber semi-automatic pistol.

Baker and Perry were booked into the Bonneville County Jail for resisting and obstructing. Baker was also charged for unlawful possession of a firearm and outstanding Bonneville County warrants. One of the warrants was for felony failure to comply with pretrial services and the other for misdemeanor failure to appear at a pretrial conference.

Perry had three outstanding warrants from Bingham County that were served on him at the jail.
