Bear Lake drowning victims identified

UPDATE: 8/4/16 3:45 p.m.

The Bear Lake County Sheriff’s Office has identified the victims of a Bear Lake drowning Wednesday as Jennifer Anne Lambourne, 37, and her daughter, Brooklyn Mae Lambourne, 11, both of South Jordan, Utah.

According to investigators, Brooklyn was on an inflated water toy with her 8-year-old cousin on Bear Lake, near Fish Haven.

A sudden storm generated strong winds, which pushed the girls away from shore and further onto the lake. Brooklyn’s mother and other family members went into the water to help the girls back to shore.

At some point, the 8-year-old fell off the toy and into the water. Brooklyn jumped off to help her cousin, but went under the water and did not surface.

The girl’s mother reached the younger girl, but she, too, eventually went under the water.

Other people were able to get the girl and Jennifer back to shore and both were transported to Bear Lake Memorial Hospital. Jennifer could not be revived and was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Brooklyn’s body was recovered at around 7 p.m. Wednesday.
