Great Feeder Canal opened to public access
A disagreement between the Jefferson County Commission and Great Feeder Canal board has been settled.
According to Jefferson County spokesperson Rebecca Squires, the feeder board approved and signed an easement and lease agreement Wednesday night allowing public access over the structure. The agreements were recorded at the courthouse Thursday morning.
Canal company crews then began removing gates and warning signs. Access was to be available to the public beginning around noon Thursday.
