Celebrate Youth event helps get kids excited for going back to school

The Madison School District hosted their 12th annual Celebrate Youth event Tuesday.

The event focused on community involvement and getting kids ready to go back to school.

Over 60 vendors attended the free event to promote their business. A total of 100 booths offered everything from dental care to health care.

Chief Operating Officer for Grand Peaks Medical and Dental Aimee Zimmer said anytime they can be apart of the community is great.

“Second year doing this event. There are so many families and children that come and they get the chance to have fun and see what the community has to offer. We have a community that cares,” Zimmer said.

The event attracts thousands of people each year and is steadily growing.

Event Manger Jessica Goudy said the youth celebration gets bigger and better every year.

“We challenge ourselves each year. And this years motto is bigger, brighter and better,” Goudy said.

This year the district partnered up with the Salt Lake Express to try to make parking at Porter Park not as stressful.

“Parking last year was a nightmare so this year we made arrangements with Salt Lake Express and people can park over at the junior high and take a shuttle back and fourth all day long. So now people don’t have to worry about parking a mile away,” Goudy said.

Attendees can find the shuttles from Salt Lake Express at Madison High School where they can park their cars.

Lorna Sharp who’s a mother of five attends the event every year and said the parking is always real bad. But this year she said it was easy for her and her family.

“We get here early, we took the shuddle. It saved us tons of time, we waited two minutes for the shuttle and in the past we have had to walk five miles,” Sharp said.
