Carrot Fire burns 54 acres in Teton County, Wyoming

Fire officials are monitoring the Carrot Fire in the remote Jedediah Smith Wilderness on the Teton Basin Ranger district.

The lighting-caused fire was reported on Monday and has grown to 54 acres.

The low-intensity fire is described as smoldering and creeping, with occasionally single or group tree torching.

As a safety precaution, the Caribou Targhee National Forest (CTNF) has implemented the following emergency closures: extending north from Indian Meadows Trailhead along Jackpine Creek to the district boundary between Ashton and Teton Ranger Districts, then extending east along the district boundary to FS trail 002, continuing southeast on FS trail 002 to the junction of FS trail 009.

The closure continues to follow FS trail 009 to the junction of FS trail 011, running along FS trail 011 to the junction of FS trail 005. Closure follows FS trail 005 along Carrot Ridge, turning south through the Bitch Creek Narrows. From the Narrows, the closure extends south along the predominate ridge to Rammel Mountain and from Rammel Mountain the closure turns westerly back to Indian Meadows Trailhead.

FS trails 010 and 015 will be closed. FS trail 002 will be closed at the junction of 002 and 009. FS trails 005, 008, 009, 011, 025 will remain open at this time.
