Utah sheriff shot in hand in Idaho hunting accident

Police say a northern Utah sheriff was shot in the hand in a hunting accident in Idaho over the weekend.

The Cache County Sheriff’s Office said Sheriff Chad Jensen was released from a hospital Monday after suffering the injury to his left hand while on a goose hunting trip near Soda Springs, Idaho.

Chief Deputy Matt Bilodeau says Jensen was flown to University of Utah Hospital in stable condition. Bilodeau didn’t elaborate on how the accident happened, saying the Soda Springs Police Department is investigating.

Bilodeau says he and other deputies will run the department in the sheriff’s absence, though he could be back as early as next week.
