The holidays are coming and so are seasonal jobs
A lot of big box retail stores are already busting out their holiday decorations, drawing in customers to get their homes ready for the holiday season. Halloween candy and cob webs are on the shelves but are quickly being upstaged by Thanksgiving turkey’s and Christmas lights.
With holiday shoppers and long lines in mind managers are already starting the seasonal hiring.
Target store manager Eric Schreibeis does seasonal hiring each year and this year, he says, they have a different hiring process.
“This year we are doing a hiring event to just create a little more excitement around the hiring get some of those people out there who are looking for a great seasonal job up front instead of quite so close to the season,” Schreibeis said.
According to the Idaho Department of Labor the retail industry is projected to see a 13 percent growth by the year 2024. That is a net change of almost 1,500 jobs. With this amount of growth the retail industry is expecting the number of temporary or holiday workers that are hired to increase.
Schreibeis also adds that temporary hires sometimes turn into permanent hires, especially with a store remodel that’s scheduled to start in January.
“There’s the opportunity to stay on a little longer seasonally, not just to help with the holiday season but to also stay through the remodel. Getting our brand new store ready,” Schreibeis said.
The remodel is scheduled to be complete by March.
