Man Attacked by Pit Bulls Stabs Them in Self-Defense
Patrol officers and animal control officers with the Chubbuck Police Department responded to a home on Scott Street, in reference to two pit bulls that had been stabbed, around 11:15 a.m. Saturday (10/15). According to the Chubbuck Police Department, witnesses were contacted and it was determined that a man was walking to his Shetland Sheepdog, also known as a Sheltie, on a leash. Police said at this point his dog was attacked by two unrestrained Pit Bulls. The man attempted to defend himself and his dog, who were both being attacked. Police said the man stabbed both Pit Bulls with his pocket knife, in self-defense. Both Pit Bulls were transported to a local veterinarian by the animal control officer and were treated for their injuries. One Pit Bull died from its injuries upon arrival to the vet and the second one was seriously injured and is unknown if it will survive. The owner of the Pit Bulls was not on scene but was contacted during the investigation. The man, as well as his dog, were both injured during the attack. His dog was transported to a local vet where it was treated and will recover from its injuries. The man had injuries to both of his hands and was shaken by the incident. At this time no charges have been filed in this case, so no names will be released. In an attempt to avoid these situations, authorities said it is encouraged all dog owners to either keep their pets in a fenced area or on a leash at all times.
