Firefighters contain house fire to laundry room
Jackson Hole Fire/EMS firefighters succeeded in confining a fire to the laundry room in a home on the north end of South Park Loop Road in Jackson Saturday.
According to Fire Marshal Kathy Clay, the laundry room was completely engulfed in flame when firefighters arrived at 1:20 p.m.
The fire started behind the dryer, which was in use at the time of the fire.
Incident Commander Matt Redwine said advanced training helped firefighters contain the fire.
Fire crews recently finished live fire training in a building in Adams Canyon. Redwine said the training was conducted in a building very similar to Saturday’s fire.
“Crews were able to take this training and put it directly into saving a structure,” Redwine said. “We train hard to be ready to respond and meet our mission statement of saving life and property.”
Clay advised homeowners to keep the area behind dryers clean of lint build-up and combustibles. She suggested frequent cleaning around dryers and using them only when someone is present in the home.
