Turkeys being collected for annual Cranksgiving
For the third year in a row, Barrie’s Ski and Sport in Pocatello is hosting Cranksgiving — an event that gathers turkeys to deliver, by bike, to the Idaho Food Bank.
This year, organizers are aiming to get around 1,000 turkeys for families in need. As of Monday, there have been 500 turkeys donated. The delivery will be made Saturday at 10 a.m. from the store to the food bank.
Jonathan Hunt, one of the organizers, said every year the turkeys help give families the Thanksgiving dinner they need.
“Out of our 1,000 turkeys, 100 percent of them are always used every year,” he said. “There’s a huge need in our community, especially this time of year, to make sure people don’t go without.”
People who would like to donate a turkey can drop it off at a freezer at Barrie’s Ski and Sport on Yellowstone Avenue. You can also donate money for turkeys, which earns you raffle tickets for prizes. Volunteers are also needed to deliver the turkeys to the food bank.
Last year, the event collected 1,200 turkeys for the food bank. The year before, 772 turkeys were collected in two weeks.
