Library participates in Idaho’s Family Reading Week

It’s Family Reading Week across Idaho. The goal is to promote the importance of reading in a child’s education.

Marshall Public Library in Pocatello will be holding various activities all week in honor of reading week. It will have crafts and story time for kids.

Kathryn Poulter, a children’s librarian, said reading out loud, especially to younger kids, helps develop their vocabulary and fluency in English.

Poulter said reading as a family sets a good example for kids about how important books are. It also encourages them to want to read because mom and dad are doing it.

“What children learn from modeling what their parents do is really important to give them a good basis in life,” Poulter said. “And so if families read together, that gives them a whole bunch of things that they can do and draw on for the rest of their life.”

The library will have a Saturday morning book group beginning at 10 a.m.

Regular story times are Monday through Thursday at 10 a.m., as well as Thursdays at 1 p.m.
