12th annual Race to Feed the hungry

The 12th annual Race to Feed the Hungry attracted thousands of runners Thanksgiving morning.

For the past eleven years, the race has evolved into a tradition for most Eastern Idahoans. The Race to Feed the Hungry has grown to include not one, but four individual events and includes something for the entire family.

The race took place at Russ Freeman Park in Idaho Falls, activities started at 8 a.m with the race starting at 9 a.m. There were prizes handed out for those who attended and all proceeds will go towards The Community Food Basket of Idaho Falls.

Personal Best Performance and the Idaho Falls Community Food Basket partnered for the event. Every person who ran, walked, or jogged in the race contributed to meeting the needs of the less fortunate in the area.

The race included a 1-mile walk, a 5K walk, 5K run, and 10K run, runners made their way around the greenbelt pathway.

Volunteer Chad Macqueen said it’s the first year he’s helped out at the event.

“I don’t think there’s a better way to spend Thanksgiving morning than coming out here and doing something good for the community. I think it’s a good way to express our gratitude for all that we have by trying to help other people,” Macqueen said.

This was Chelsey Suter’s second year running.”It’s a fun community activity and a great cause. It brings people together and it’s a great way to start the holiday.”
