Multiple large construction projections planned for I-15 in 2017

Starting in the early spring large chunks of I-15 will be undergoing improvement construction projects.

Below is a press release from the Idaho Transportation Department on the upcoming projects:

The Idaho Transportation is preparing motorists for extensive construction on much of Interstate 15 within Idaho starting in the spring of 2017. This will create temporary traffic changes, but the result will be improved road surfaces and bridge supports.

Weather permitting, by mid-April or the beginning of May, construction will begin along I-15 from milepost 39 north of the Utah border to the Montana border. There will be multiple projects ongoing in this 140-mile stretch (details below).

Crews will replace old, cracked asphalt that has completed its 20-year life cycle with new, smoother road surfaces. They will also fix deteriorating concrete and guardrails on and around aging bridges.

This work will improve the safety of motorists and driving conditions – particularly on stretches with higher speed limits. During construction, traffic will be diverted to one side of the interstate and speed limits will be reduced for the safety of construction crews.

The total cost of all these projects is estimated to be $60 million.
