Idaho Mayor’s Scholarship App Due Feb. 1

The deadline for applications for the Idaho Falls Mayor’s Scholarship Fund is Feb. 1.

The city is aiming to give at least $60,000 in scholarships in 2017.

“Promise Award” scholarships of $250 are available for students in grades 8 through 11.

They can be used during a student’s senior year for college preparation, including standardized testing, college application fees and campus tours, or for tuition at in-state college and training programs, as well as military academies. They can also be used to pay for dual-credit coursework.

Traditional scholarships for graduating high school seniors are for either $1,500 or $2,500. Those scholarships can be used at state colleges and universities.

The scholarships will be awarded at the Colonial Theater on March 29.

“There’s no doubt that Idaho’s youth will need training and opportunities for learning beyond high school. “This program is one tremendous effort to give Idaho Falls students the advantages higher education offers. We thank the many generous sponsors who make this program possible,” Mayor Rebecca Casper said.
