Local family has snow day as school canceled

It was tricky driving around Bingham County Wednesday, with the snow falling and blowing pretty fast. Blackfoot and Snake River school districts sent kids home early from school because of the weather.

As KIFI/KIDK drove around the city, we saw kids playing outside and sledding down a hill they made in their grandparents’ front lawn.

Grandpa shoveling, kids sledding and grandma staying warm inside. This is how one Blackfoot family spent their morning after school was canceled.

“Well, we went to school, and then once we got to second period, our teacher said it was going to close at 10 o’clock. And it was kind of like, ‘Oh! That might be fun to stay home,'” said Kaden Bloxham, a seventh grader at Idaho Science and Technology Charter School.

But, his sister had a different first reaction.

“I was upset because I really like school,” said Kenna Bloxham, a fifth grader at Idaho Science and Technology Charter School.

So with a snow day, it looked like a great day to play.

“We’ve got so much snow lately, that they are some pretty big hills up that we can sled down compared to normal,” Kaden said.

“We’ll be shoveling, playing out here and probably watching some movies,” Kenna said.

The grandparents told me this snowfall is the most they’ve seen in years — possibly decades. But Kaden only ranks Wednesday’s snow as the second worst.

“I wouldn’t say the worst. I’d say probably the second worst I’ve seen here. Because when I was in third grade, there was, like, complete white out while we were at school,” Kaden said.
