Evening Forecast for January 7, 2017
Seeing the first of several waves of moisture move through eastern Idaho/western Wyoming this evening. Count on a lot more as a series of storms roll through.
Tonight, mostly cloudy with off-and-on snow showers. Overnight lows in the single digits and teens with about 1-2″ of new snow in the valleys and 3-6″ in the mountains.
Sunday, on-and-off rain/snow showers with rain creeping up the Snake River Plain and into some other valley locations as the warm part of the storm moves in. Rain on top of snow and frozen ground could lead to localized flooding, particularly near rivers and low lying areas. Pockets of freezing rain is also a possibility, with the highest chances along I-86. Highs will be in the 20’s and 30’s. Winds will pick up by the afternoon as well.
Monday, on-and-off rain/snow showers with steady rain in the southern Snake River Plain. Just like Sunday, localized flooding is a possibility with rain on top of melting snow and frozen ground. Folks near rivers need to keep an eye out. Even if you don’t live near rivers, city storm drains can easily clog with snow leading to localized street flooding. Highs for the day in the upper 20’s, 30’s, and possibly nudging 40 in a few spots. Winds will be blustery and sporadic.
Tuesday, more rain/snow showers with cooler air. A few spots will still break above freezing, but it won’t be as widespread as on Sunday and Monday. Highs will range from the 20’s to the mid-30’s. Winds be off-and-on throughout the day as well.
