Road closures reported; Jackson area dealing with bad conditions

Avalanche danger is forcing some area highways to be closed.

US Highway 93 between 12 Mile Creek Road (10 miles south of the Salmon area) and the Montana State line (44 miles north of the Salmon area) is closed because of the danger.

Idaho Highway 75 is closed between Redfish Lake Road (near Stanley) and Squaw Creek Road (5 miles south of the Clayton area).

Idaho Transportation Department District 6 spokesman Bruce King said a few slides have occurred in these since Christmas and they’re taking precautions. Road crews are watching and removing any snow from slides as soon as they can. It unknown when the roads will reopen.

Wyoming Highway 22 is also closed between the Idaho State Line and Wilson, Wyoming due to avalanche control.

The Teton County, Wyoming Sheriff’s Office and Jackson Police Department are asking all residents and visitors to avoid unnecessary travel Monday.

All Teton County Road and Levee crews were working to ensure access on county-maintained portions of the region’s road networks.

Snow slides were cleared on Fall Creek Road and Henry’s Road. Work is also underway on the Elk Refuge Road, where significant flooding has made the road difficult for travel. A contractor is using a blade to cut drainages.

START Bus Service suspended service to Teton Valley by mid-morning, Monday. Transit Director Darren Brugmann said START will evaluate Teton Valley Service on Tuesday.

Three buses made it from Star Valley into Jackson. All three will depart at their normally scheduled times. The Town Shuttle is operating with all four scheduled buses.

Jackson Hole reported 10 to 18 inches of snow on the valley floor from late Sunday through Monday morning.

A backcountry avalanche warning has been posted by the Bridger-Teton National Forest avalanche center.
