Protecting your pipes from freezing temperatures

Frozen water pipes have caused major headaches for many residents and utility crews this winter, but the recent pleasant temperatures Eastern Idaho has had doesn’t mean the problem has gone away.

The warmer temperatures have prompted the snow to melt. The problem lies with how far down in the ground the frost is. Until all the frost is gone, pipes are still in danger of freezing.

When it comes to protecting the pipes in your home, the first move should be making sure the pipes are exposed to warm air.

Leave cabinets open. This allows warmer air to circulate around the pluming. Also let cold water drip from the faucet. Running water even at a trickle prevents pipes from freezing.
