Air Quality warnings issued for Salmon area
The Idaho Department of Environmental Quality has issued an Air Quality Advisory and Stage 1 Air Quality Forecast for the city of Salmon and surrounding area. The caution was issued because of degraded air quality caused by stagnant atmosphere and elevated pollutant levels. As a result, all outdoor open burning is prohibited. There is a voluntary burn ban for residential wood burning activities. Air quality is currently in the “unhealthy” category and is forecast to vary from “unhealthy” to “moderate” realm. When air quality is unhealthy, everyone may begin to experience health effects. Some people in sensitive groups, including those with heart and lung disease, older adults and children, may experience more serious effects. It is recommended they avoid prolonged heavy exertion and stay indoors. Everyone else should limit time outdoors. The Department of Environmental Quality is expected to update the warning January 30, 2017.
