Crews respond to Chubbuck house fire

The Chubbuck Fire Department responded to a house fire on Ponderosa Drive around 1:45 p.m. Saturday.

Fire officials said smoke was coming from ventilation shafts when they arrived, but flames were not visible.

Kurt Eldredge, duty chief with Chubbuck Fire, said a breaker had kicked and the owner had left. When the owner returned, he saw smoke.

Eldredge said one of the wires in the attic melted the insulation and it caught fire. That part of the wire was about 15 feet in length.

Three people were evacuated, but no one was injured.

Eldredge said most of the damage was to the ceiling, so the house should be livable for the family. Crews estimate about $25,000 in damage.

The 4500 block of Ponderosa Drive was blocked off for a short time while crews worked to clean up.
