Idaho food banks running low, asking for community support

Every month the Idaho Food Bank provides more than 1 million meals to families in the community. However when March rolls around, food and financial donations tend to drop off. This impacts the partners with the Idaho Food Bank like the First Baptist Church in Pocatello.

Pastor Pettit said they normally get around 5,000 pounds of food a week from the food bank. They use that food in their church food pantry to help families in the area. But going into the first week of March they only got around 2,200 pounds of food.

Part of the reason donations slow down is due to the time of the year. Pastor Pettit said we are in between seasons. And grocery store inventories are running low during this time.

The Idaho Food Bank is trying to combat this with their “Million Meals in March”. Throughout the month of march various events are happening to raise 1 million meals for families.
