Idaho State upsets Northern Colorado

The Idaho State women’s basketball team is trying on Cinderella’s slippers for the second straight year as the Bengals advanced to the Big Sky Conference tournament semifinals following a 60-59 victory over Northern Colorado Wednesday night at the Reno Events Center.

Saylair Grandon hit a mid-range jumper with three seconds remaining in the fourth quarter to give No. 6 Idaho State the win over the No. 3 Bears. Grandon scored a game-high 18 points, and Grace Kenyon added 16 points for the Bengals.

This is the second straight season ISU has advanced to the semifinals at the neutral site. In 2016, the Bengals went all the way to the conference championship game before falling to the Idaho Vandals for the league’s only big to the NCAA Tournament.

Idaho State faces No. 7 Portland State Friday afternoon in the semifinals. The Vikings defeated second-seed North Dakota to advance. The Bengals beat PSU in the only meeting between the two this year. Tip off is set for 3:35 MST.
