Idaho Falls area reacts to Syria missile strike, possible affect on gas prices
The United States’ missile strike on Syria is raising a lot of concerns. One of those concerns is with gas and oil prices. KIFI/KIDK got local reaction to the air strike and to the possible increase we may see in gas prices.
“It was sudden. Unexpected. It may work. We hope it does,” said one woman.
“I have no major problems, as long as its well thought-out and we go into it with the idea that it’s really to protect us,” a man commented.
Idaho Sen. James Risch appeared on CNN this morning expressing his thoughts about President Donals Trump’s actions — saying this decision will make other countries continue to take the Untied States seriously.
“This has demonstrated, for us as Americans and for the world, that this president is committed and that he’s not afraid to act. I absolutely guarantee that today in North Korea, in Iran, in Moscow and for that matter in Beijing, there are people sitting around the table saying, ‘You know? It’s time we recalibrated what the status of the United States is and what they are willing to do when they think they need to do the right thing,'” Risch said.
Now another one of these affects is the price of oil. According to gasbuddy.com, oil prices were trading significantly higher after the missile attack last night. Oil rose by a dollar per barrel to $52.70. And if oil prices go up, gas prices will eventually, too.
“I’m interested in what’s going on, and I hope that it has a good outcome,” the woman said.
“I’m not very fond of anything going up in price. Especially gas because I got to get around. It’s a necessity,” added the man.
Patrik DeHann, a senior analyst at gasbuddy.com, said, “It is too early to know how severe or how long the impact to oil prices may be.”
While there is no major impact on America’s gas prices yet, people are concerned. But depending on further action from the White House, the situation could quickly change.
