Ada County man sentenced for petit theft

BOISE, Idaho (KIFI) – Attorney General Lawrence Wasden has announced an Ada County man was sentenced Wednesday, January 26, for petit theft.

39-year-old Cody G. Proctor, of Meridian, pleaded guilty immediately prior to sentencing.

Ada County Magistrate Judge Thomas Watkins withheld judgment and placed Proctor on one year of probation. The court also ordered the defendant to pay a $150 fine, $432 in restitution to GEICO and $337 in restitution to the Idaho Department of Insurance.

In November 2017, Proctor filed a claim with GEICO on a vehicle, claiming that the damage had occurred within the previous thirty days. However, investigators determined the damage to the vehicle had occurred 11 months earlier and before Proctor initiated GEICO’s coverage on the car. When interviewed, Proctor admitted to filing the claim with GEICO to cover previous damage to the vehicle.

Deputy Attorney General Haylee Mills in the Attorney General’s Special Prosecutions Unit prosecuted the case. The Idaho Department of Insurance investigated.
