1,000 flags set up at Freeman Park for Memorial Day

Several celebrations across the area will take place in the next few days to honor our loved ones who have died. Volunteers set up 1,000 flags at Freeman Park in Idaho Falls Friday morning in preparation for Memorial Day.

The tribute benefits local veterans, child abuse prevention agencies, and crime prevention efforts. You can sponsor a flag for $30, and KIFK/KIDK was told those proceeds usually raise around $12,000 a year for the three sponsored programs.

“One of our service projects is Americanism, so it really fits the bill for promoting America. We really wanted a community event — family oriented — that fit the bill for Memorial Day, outside cemeteries,” said Idaho Falls City Council member David Smith.

This is the fifth year this display has been at Freeman Park. It’s hosted by the Idaho Falls Exchange Club and the city of Idaho Falls.
