Idaho Falls Police outline door-to-door sales advice

Idaho Falls Police are warning door-to-door solicitors to obtain a permit or face the possibility of misdemeanor charges. City ordinances require all solicitors, except people involved in political campaigns or proselytizing, to have a door-to-door sales permit. The one-year permits expire on December 31 of each year and must be visibly worn by all solicitors when going door-to-door. Such sales are only allowed between 9 a.m. and 8 p.m. and none are allowed on Sundays or any legal holiday. Solicitors are not allowed to knock on any door that displays a “no solicitation” sign that is posted near the primary entrance. Before opening the door, look through a peephole or window so you can see who’s knocking. You are not required to open your door to a stranger and you shouldn’t let anyone in if you are alone. Be sure to call and report any solicitor who refuses to leave, becomes overly aggressive, or is soliciting without a permit. Never feel pressured into listing to a sales pitch and do your research before doing business with someone you do not know. You can find more information about Idaho Falls’ door-to-door laws here.
