Bonneville High School theater shed vandalized, clean up

There was another case of vandalism in Idaho Falls. A couple of weeks ago, the Bonneville High School theater storage shed was broken into, costing tens of thousands of dollars worth of damage to the department’s property.

KIFI/KIDK talked to the school’s drama teacher about how heartbreaking this was to him and his students.

“It’s really disheartening, to walk into something like this,” Shaun Nichols, the drama teacher, said.

Teenagers broke into the shed and unleashed a fire extinguisher, spraying everything from clothes, to furniture and props — right at the start of a new production.

“I don’t know if it was just a cheap thrill or something like that. It’s kind of gut dropping, honestly, to know the amount of work that went into making all of this and the amount of work that it’s going to take to clean all of this up. I felt really sad because I knew that my students were expecting some costumes out of here,” Nichols said.

Damage is estimated between $13,000 and $15,000. The school’s insurance can partly cover that cost. Tobin Restoration will be dealing with the repairs and damages.

“So today, we’re going to just start pulling out the laundry needs that need to be taken care of. Hopefully, we can get started on this process of being cleaned — list out or dry cleaning items,” Nichols said.

The the teens who vandalized the building have been caught. The next phase of the cleaning will be to clear the furniture and props that were damaged by the fire extinguisher.
