Officials found person dead near Yellowstone North Entrance

Yellowstone National Park search crews located the body of Jeff Murphy who was missing near the park’s North Entrance.

Authorities said Murphy’s death appears to have resulted from a fall on Turkey Pen Peak.

Eight hiking teams, five dog teams, four horse teams, and a helicopter continued the search for missing hiker Jeff Murphy Friday.

The Rescue Creek Trail, near the North Entrance, is closed due to an ongoing search.

A ground and air search has been initiated for a 53-year-old Illinois man who is reported missing in Yellowstone National Park. The National Park Service says the search for Jeff Murphy, of Batavia, Illinois, was being conducted near the park’s North Entrance. The agency says his last known location was at the Rescue Creek Trailhead at 8 a.m. Wednesday. It says Murphy had intended to hike for the day in the area.

Yellowstone National Park staff are looking for 53-year-old Jeff Murphy of Batavia, Illinois.

Murphy was last seen at the Rescue Creek Trailhead near the North Entrance at 8 a.m. Wednesday, June 7.

Park officials say Murphy intended to hike Turkey Pen Peak and may be wearing khaki pants, a yellow t-shirt, navy pullover, a green and gray rain jacket and an army green backpack.
