Church building turns 100 years old
It appears this is the year of restorations and celebrations for some local churches. The Idaho Falls LDS Temple was remodeled and just rededicated.
Some restoration efforts are underway at another iconic religious structure in Idaho Falls. The Trinity United Methodist church behind the Museum of Idaho is turning 100 years old this year and they’re sprucing it up.
Reverend Ruth Marsh has been pastor at Trinity United Methodist for about two years and she’s proud of this historic building that’s turning 100.
“It is a fabulous reason to celebrate,” Reverend Ruth Marsh said. “We are so grateful to all those folks more than 100 years ago who had the foresight to know they wanted an awesome long-lasting, beautiful building to serve the whole community and house a Methodist congregation.”
Nearly 50 years ago Marilyn Taylor moved to Idaho Falls with her family and has been a part of this congregation that entire time. That’s nearly the life of this building
“It’s just been part of our life,” Taylor said. “Our four children were born and raised and baptized here, so it’s been one of the significant parts of our lives.”
Marilyn is involved in the choir and bell choir here and has made long-last friendships.
“The friendships are amazing and then to have such a wonderful sanctuary and worshiping community,” Taylor said.
“We are getting ready for restoration Saturday, that’s this weekend,” Reverend Ruth said.
Restoration Saturday is from 9 to noon Saturday, Jul;y 1. They’ll paint a few areas and put together health kits for disaster victims.
As part of restoration Saturday, Reverend Ruth is inviting people to come here if they would like, but if not, she hopes you’ll take the time to do some worthwhile project in the community.
“So we’re going to invite you, take this Saturday, a little chunk of time, and go do that good thing that you’ve been putting off — maybe it’s visiting shut-ins, maybe it’s spruce up a place that’s near and dear to your heart,” Reverend Ruth said.
So whether you put on your work clothes and help paint the parlor of this local landmark, or find your own service project tomorrow, Reverend Ruth will consider her invitation a success.
If you want to volunteer at the church, they’ll be working from 9 to noon tomorrow morning. The church is trying to find and reach out to members who have moved away or anyone who has a connection with this church so they can invited this fall to the 100 year celebration of the dedication.
