Russian President Vladimir Putin warned that Ukrainian statehood is in jeopardy, while Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy made a “desperate plea” for more planes. He urged Ukrainians to keep resisting as Russian forces continued to batter strategic locations with missiles and artillery. Ukrainian officials said shelling had halted plans to evacuate civilians from two cities as a cease-fire deal quickly fell apart just hours after Russia announced it. More than 1.4 million people have left Ukraine, many carrying just the essentials. The U.N. World Food Program says millions of people inside Ukraine will need food aid immediately as the humanitarian crisis deepens. Russia and Ukraine are scheduled to resume negotiations Monday.
