Rigby man severely injured in Utah crash

A Rigby man was hospitalized at the University of Utah burn center after a crash near Logan, Utah on SR 89-91 Wednesday. He was identified as William Gray. Gray was driving a semi-truck loaded with sand. The Utah Highway Patrol says a pickup driver, identified as Marcos Torres, 26, of Brigham City, Utah was killed in the crash. Logan Police Chief Gary Jensen said officers are attempting to determine the cause or motive for the crash. According to reports, a trooper spotted a black Silverado pickup truck that matched an “attempt to locate” call issued just after 2 p.m. Police had received numerous notifications Torres was driving erratically and recklessly. When the trooper attempted to pull the pickup over near Wellsville, it sped away at a high rate of speed. According to the trooper, the pickup crossed the median and collided head-on with the semi-truck. According to Logan Police, the impact created an explosion and an immediate fire. The driver of the pickup was pronounced dead at the scene. Gray was on fire when he got out of the semi. The flames were put out by a Highway Patrol trooper. Gray suffered serious injuries and was transported to Logan Regional Hospital. He was later flown by helicopter to the University of Utah burn center in Salt Lake City. His condition was unavailable.
