Jim Freeman runs for Idaho Falls City Council, list of other open elected offices

Campaigns are gearing up for local cities with candidates announcing their runs for office. Jim Freeman announced Tuesday he is running for an Idaho Falls City Council member seat.

He made the announcement at Freeman Park, which was named after his grandfather. He is running for council member seat six, which is currently held by Barbara Ehardt, who is running for Idaho Falls mayor. Freeman enjoys Idaho Falls parks and says he will be a big advocate for park-improvement projects. He also worked at the Idaho Falls Fire Department for 26 years.

“I have a unique perspective I can bring to council, because of my time spent with the city — because I was a former city employee. I understand the inner workings of the city. I understand a lot of the issues that face us. I’m up to speed on a lot of things already,” Freeman said.

Idaho Falls has the mayor and three city council seats up for re-election. Those are seats 2, 4, and 6.

The city of Rexburg has two city council seats open for re-election.

Blackfoot has the mayor and two city council seats, seats 1 and 2.

And Pocatello has the mayor and three city council positions open at seats 4, 5 and 6.

To file candidacy for an elected office position in the November 2017 election, the opening time is 8 a.m. Aug. 25. The deadline to register is 5 p.m. Sept. 8. Even though people have announced their bids, nothing is official until that last filing date Sept. 8.
