Serve Idaho awards almost one million in grants for AmeriCorps Programs

Serve Idaho, the Governor’s Commission on Service and Volunteerism, has received $977,983 from the Corporation for National and Community Service to fund AmeriCorps programs in 2017-2018.

These funds will support the service of 134 AmeriCorps members statewide. AmeriCorps members give a year of intensive service on a full-time or part-time basis, helping others and meeting critical needs in a community.

Grants have been awarded to:

Idaho State University – Idaho Health Care for Children and Families AmeriCorps Program, $345,915 to fund 62 AmeriCorps members as health advocates for the children and families in Head Start. Members conduct basic health screenings for the children, help families navigate the health care system and provide them with information about valuable community resources. Student Conservation Association – Student Conservation Association Idaho AmeriCorps Program, $178,640 to fund 28 AmeriCorps members working full time from May through October in a residential AmeriCorps program in the Salmon-Challis National Forest. Through hands-on conservation service projects and professional training, AmeriCorps members enhance their field skills and career opportunities while making an impact in rural Idaho communities through educational outreach and volunteer engagement. Palouse Clearwater Environmental Institute – Palouse-Clearwater Environmental AmeriCorps Program, $165,907 to fund 12 AmeriCorps members placed with agencies to address environmental conservation, sustainable living and rural community needs throughout Idaho. Lewis-Clark State College – Lewis-Clark Service Corps, $287,521 to fund 32 AmeriCorps members who will serve as tutors and mentors to students in grades K-12 in northern Idaho schools.
