Portneuf Medical Center has eclipse baby
The total solar eclipse on Monday was an exciting an event for many. But for one Pocatello couple, it was an extra special day as they gave birth to their first child during the eclipse.
“Everyone I knew was rooting for an eclipse baby and I said, ‘No, no, no eclipse baby,'” said Lauren Johnson, first-time mom. “But apparently, everyone else won out. I lost.”
Troy and Lauren Johnson welcomed daughter Olivia Rose Johnson into the world at 12:09 p.m. on Monday afternoon at Portneuf Medical Center.
Lauren was originally due on the 19th but Olivia held out. Lauren says she went into labor Sunday morning at 5:30 a.m. and about 30 hours later, Olivia was born.
Olivia is 7 pounds, 10 ounces and was 20 3/4 inches long.
The first-time parents said even though it wasn’t planned, it was a fun coincidence.
Olivia was the only baby born in the area during the eclipse.
“I was really shocked,” Lauren Johnson said. “I thought there would be a lot of women here and when they told me I was the only one on the floor, I was really, really shocked. So then we did joke about ‘Oh, you’re going to be on the news’ and here we are. But it was a joke at first. I just think it’s really crazy we were the only ones.”
“It’ll be a great story when she grows up for sure,” said Troy Johnson.
The Johnsons said as a special memory, they would like to try and take a family vacation to see an eclipse.
