Pocatello natives waiting out Harvey in Houston

Wes and Jessie Mennear, who moved to Houston about two years ago, are hunkering down in their apartment, with nowhere to go.

The water in the street is up to their waste, with most streets being even higher. The Mennears stocked up on supplies before the flooding hit and are waiting to see if the power goes out.

Despite the major disaster, they have seen signs of hope.

“It’s like the Charlotte fire in Pocatello,” Jessie Mennear, said. “You get this real community feeling of these people that you would never see hanging out together in groups, coming together and looking past all their differences and pulling for one another.”

They helped one woman find help when she went into labor. All of the 911 lines were down, but they were able to find someone to assist her.

With no end to the rain in sight, they’ll be staying in their apartment a while longer.
