Man with secondary Parkinson’s completes half-marathon for great cause

OUR stands for Operation Underground Railroad. It is an organization that rescues children from around the world who have been taken sex slaves.

A fundraiser called the Run to Break the Chain was held in Rexburg Saturday morning. KIFI/KIDK talked with a man who completes the half-marathon despite his own obstacles.

“I’ve never seen anyone more dedicated,” said Matt Foster, co-director of the race.

Brock Higham has participated in the Run to Break the Chain for the past two years. He has secondary Parkinson’s, which makes it difficult for him to walk and talk. But that won’t stop him from completing the 13.1 miles anyway he can. This year, it was by bike.

“This year I wasn’t able to train at all. I was like, ‘Well, I really want to do it again this year,'” Higham said.

“I mean an example of his dedication was when he decided to walk the race two years ago in 2015 and completed the races in just under 12 hours,” Foster said.

As the last to cross the finish line with his family, he finished the half marathon in 4 hours 34 minutes and 23 seconds.

He’ll continue to do this every year: “Because I think the mission of OUR is awesome. It feels great,” Higham said.

There are over 2 million children in the world currently suffering in captivity as sex slaves. OUR raises funds to be able to safely rescue them, place them into saf havens, then go after the organizations that took them. For more information on OUR, click here.
