Uranus could be visible with the naked eye Thursday night
Go ahead and giggle. You read that right.
The combination of a dark sky thanks to a new moon and a close pass by our two planets means you might be able to see Uranus with little to no help.
NASA says Uranus will reach opposition on October 19, meaning the planet will be directly opposite from the sun which brings it closer to Earth and makes it brighter than normal.
It may be bright enough to see with your naked eye–and for sure in binoculars, NASA said.
To find Uranus, look into the southeast sky. It’s in the constellation Pisces, the fish.
NASA said the planet will be visible all night long, and its blue-green color is unmistakable.
The planet will be closest to Earth at about 1.7 billion miles. At their furthermost, the two planets are roughly 1.98 billion miles apart.
