Pocatello tops Idaho equality index

The 2017 “Municipal Equality Index” has ranked Pocatello #1 among Idaho cities.

The nationwide survey was conducted by the Equality Foundation for the Human Rights Campaign, examining how inclusive municipal laws, policies and services are for the LGBTQ communities who live in them.

Pocatello scored a 75 out of 100. Boise was second with a score of 71. Idaho Falls was 5th with 41 points, behind Coeur d’Alene 66, and Moscow 57.

The survey evaluated five basic issues including non-discrimination laws, the city as an employer, municipal services, law enforcement, and its relationship with the LGBTQ community.

“I’m pleased to learn that Pocatello is ranked as the top Idaho city on the Municipal Equality Index,” said Pocatello Mayor Brian Blad. “We’ve come a long way, and I’m proud of our progress.”
