New outdoor ice ribbon coming to Idaho Falls
The city of Idaho Falls has some pretty big plans for the Joe Marmo/Wayne Lehto Ice Arena. The Parks and Recreation department is opening up a new outdoor ice ribbon. For those who are wondering what an ice ribbon is, it’s a skating trail for those who might get bored going around a loop and may want something a little bigger and more scenic. The city of Idaho Falls got the idea from the city of Chicago, where they created a couple of these ribbons.
Development has been in the process for a couple of months. They started putting in the edges along the ice back in November. Yesterday they brought in water to build up ice along the trail. It’s something that’s different for us here in Idaho Falls,” said PJ Holm, the Recreation Superintendent of Idaho Falls, said. “And I really think it’s gonna be something special up and down our valley that’s going to bring people to Idaho Falls, bring people into our community to come and try something new and get out and recreate.”
The city does not have set date for the ice ribbon to be open. They are still waiting for the weather to be just right.
When it does get up and running, the ribbon should be open the same days and times as the ice rink.
