Bonneville High School student spreading positivity for senior project
One Bonneville High School student is on a mission to spread positivity. For her senior project, she set up a program where people can receive positive texts each day.
Marlee Whitehead started the “BEE-LOVED Campaign,” partially inspired by the school mascot. People can text “Smile” to 910-11.
“And you should get a text back confirming that you’ve been added to the “BEE-LOVED campaign group and you’ll get a text everyday on from there a positive affirmation or advice,” says Whitehead.
She says she wants to spread positivity to her school and the community since there have been some tough times.
“We’ve had a lot of suicides around eastern Idaho and that has been hard, people in our grade that is a problem and we’ve had car accidents happen and that was hard too.”
But she hopes this can lift some spirits.
“I want people to know that they make a difference, they are here for a reason and that we love them and want them here. And I want people to know they can be happy, and I want to make them happy and I want to be the person that makes a difference in their day.”
Other students and even faculty are excited.
“The more peace that she brings, the better this place will be,” says Ty Martin, senior.
“I think it’s a really cool idea, it’s going to help a lot of kids who are having rough times so it will keep a positive outlook throughout the school and it will affect other schools throughout the area,” says Bridger Talamantez, senior.
“Anytime someone can get a positive message that’s a definite boost, even on a really tough day, just to be reminded that hope is out there and there will be light at the end of the darkness,” says Sara Colson, counselor.
Marlee says that anyone in the area can sign up, not just students. She has over 300 signups so far and texts just started today.
