Pocatello Lt. Paul Manning pulls the pin Thursday

Longtime Pocatello Police officer Lieutenant Paul Manning is retiring.

A 35-year veteran, Manning began his law enforcement career in Pocatello after graduating from the Idaho Peace Officer Standards and Training Academy (POST) in 1982. He served in many roles including time as a lead narcotics detective, homeland security/ domestic security coordinator, public information officer, and bike and motorcycle patrol officer. He has been assigned to the investigations division since January 2016.

“One of the highlights of my career has been graduating from the Federal Bureau of Investigation Law Enforcement Executive Development Association’s program in 2011,” said Lt. Manning. “While there, I was able to develop my leadership and command skills as well as learn about the future of policing.”

The public is invited to an open house for Manning at 11:30 a.m. Thursday in the Pocatello City Council Chambers.

Manning intends to teach firearms through the Idaho State University Law Enforcement program. He will also teach firearms at the Idaho POST Academy. He has taught there for the past 16 years.

“It has been an honor to serve the people of Pocatello with my fellow officers,” said Manning. “The memories I’ve made here will be something I will cherish forever.”
