Police: No increase in crime level despite series of shootings

People in Idaho Falls are concerned about a series of possible drive-by shootings this week; however, police say there is only evidence of one of them.

It happened early Monday morning at K Street and Sage Avenue. The shooting left bullet holes in a house. The second alleged drive-by was Tuesday evening at Canyon Avenue and Iona Street. The third allegedly took place around 2:30 Wednesday morning at Juniper Drive and East 17th Street. Police have not been able to find any evidence of these last two. People reported hearing a loud noise, but police cannot confirm a gunshot at this point.

The K Street shooting is currently an open investigation, but the other two are just reported incidents. The Idaho Falls Police Department says that despite a lot of activity this week, there is not threat to the public.

“The police department is really trying to engage the public about what’s going on,” Holly Cook, Public Information Officer for the Idaho Falls Police Department, said. “And we’re asking for your help and your feedback. That does not necessarily mean that there’s an increase in crime. So we’ve had a lot of reports lately, we’ve had a lot of communication. And certainly we had a really big incident with this officer involved shooting the other day, but statistically speaking, our crime level has not increased whatsoever. And we still have one of the lowest crime rates in the state.”
