Construction to continue on Interstate 15 starting this spring
Last year, I-15 brought quite a bit of construction, and this year, the planned projects will cause much less of a disruption. The Idaho Transportation Department will begin construction this spring, repairing and resurfacing several sections of the interstate.
This year, some projects include: finishing up the south Blackfoot interchange south to milepost 86 on the northbound side, resulting in crossover traffic control to the southbound side, a pavement overhaul from McCammon to Inkom, and two bridge rehabilitation projects: finishing up the other side of the Incom bridge and improving a separate bridge between Inkom and McCammon.
One project in particular is the Ballast Reconstruction near Spencer and the Montana state line.
The traffic will alter to one side, while the other undergoes construction. The traffic will be light enough in that particular area that it isn’t expected to cause a significant amount of congestion.
Dan Harelson, the Project Engineer for I-15 stated, “”The underlying material is in bad enough shape that we need to do a full reconstruction, so we’ll be taking the pavement off, rebuilding the underlying roadbed, and then repaving the road.”
Projects will be starting April 1st, but roads will not be closed for Memorial Day.
