Two men with knives arrested after running from police
Two men were arrested Friday by Idaho Falls Police after a short foot chase.
Around 12:40 a.m., Idaho Falls Police responded to a disturbance call on the 1300 block of Suzanne Avenue.
When police arrived, officers found two adult men, Anthony Raymond Orona, 21 and Joseph Hector Avilez, 18 who appeared to be intoxicated.
The two were walking when one of the men appeared to be grabbing something from the other man.
Both men fell on the ground. That’s when police saw one of them was in possession of a very long knife in his pocket. Officers yelled for him to put the knife down.
Chief Bryce Johnson was working on patrol with officers and responded to the incident.
Johnson kicked another knife away from the men, just before they both ran away from police on opposite direction.
Officer Dustin Howell and Sergeant Jessica Marley chased after the men. They were able to catch them and apprehend them.
Orona was charged with possession of a controlled substance, disturbing the peace and resisting or obstructing officers.
Avilez was charged with resisting or obstructing officers.
Police retrieved the long serrated hunting knife that was 8 to 10 inches long and the second folding knife with several blades. Also retrieved were some unidentified prescription medications, which are undergoing testing.
